Who doesn’t want to be successful? Most especially, who does not want to be successful right now? Success takes time and by incorporating these 10 tips the road to success can be a little shorter.
1. Success comes from taking the time to learn.
We are not born knowing everything. Sometimes we are in such a hurry to get ahead that we feel guilty to take the time to learn. I know I’m guilty of it.
I’ve spent a lot of time teaching throughout my life and what I found to be the fastest way for anyone to learn is to have a laser-sharp focus on the task at hand. Don’t try to focus on more than one thing at a time or you will sabotage your success. I cannot learn five different things at one time, no matter how much I would like to try. We, women, are multi-taskers, but that strategy does not work for study time.
2. Successful people find the right teacher.
Finding the right teacher to help you with your learning method is priceless. We are not all the same, some people are visual learners and they learn by watching. Some people have to do things to learn them. Some other people need to read things to learn. We are all different but one thing we have in common is that we can all learn!
If you felt you were not a good student in the past, it may not have been your fault. As long as you did your best to learn something but just couldn’t get it, your teacher may not have understood (or had the time) to cater to your learning style. I can say that because when I taught if my students did the best job they could but could not grasp the material, it was on me to help them find a way to learn it.
A good teacher knows that not all students are the same. Today is a new day, find your learning style and learn something new every day. Never ever stop learning. The best way to be successful is to keep your mind sharp. Our brain is like a muscle, we have to work it to keep it strong. The older I get the better my memory, and that is because I never stop learning. If with age automatically came wisdom all old people would be millionaires!
3. Success happens when you let go of the ego.
You don’t know everything and guess what, that’s OK. When I want to learn from someone I just try and empty out my head of everything I know while I suck up the tutelage of my mentor. I think a lot of the reason we have an ego is we want to be accepted as successful. I find the most intelligent people don’t have to prove anything to anyone, they just absorb knowledge like a sponge.
There is always something you can learn from everyone. You can even learn what not to do and that is one of the greatest lessons of all so put that ego aside and allow yourself to learn.
4. Success comes to those who get organized.
The best way to really learn something is to teach it. When you are trying to find the secret formula to becoming successful organize a plan. Set up a course to success and be your own student! By organizing yourself this way you have a course and a testimonial built right into your success. Who has more interest in yourself than you?
5. Successful people never give up.
What is the one thing all successful people have in common? They never give up. Thomas Edison failed over 10,000 times before he invented the light bulb. He never had any intention of giving up.
6. Success is not being afraid of failure.
Never ever be afraid to fail. I’ve failed more times than I can count. Think about this, if for every ten failures you get one success, those are pretty good odds. Nobody gets it right the first time. I think Henry Ford said it best when he said: “Failure is simply the opportunity to begin again, this time more intelligently.” Failure is nothing to be ashamed of.
7. Successful people set deadlines.
Put a timeline on what you want to do. Don’t allow yourself to have a loose goal to your success. Success is a journey, not a destination, but you do have to reach those mile markers along the way. If you set deadlines for yourself, then you have a plan and plan your way to success
is what makes success happen!
Don’t let perfection stand in your way of getting things done. No one is perfect and you can always improve upon things later.
8. Success comes from taking notes.
Successful people always have a pen and paper or a note taking app ready on their phone. You never know when inspiration will strike. Don’t let a million dollar idea fly out of your head and into oblivion. I say this all the time and it is worth repeating, take notes and write things down! You may not act on that idea right away but it is there for future use or inspiration.
9. Successful people look for ways to be more efficient.
A great tip for successful people is to be more efficient. There is always a better way to do something, we just have to find it. Continue to tweak until you are satisfied with your efficiency. You don’t have to reinvent the wheel, you can learn efficiency from someone else. Keep testing and trying methods until you find what works for you. I like to be efficient with anything I spend my time doing.
For instance, I realize I can be more efficient at brushing my teeth and do a better job with a sonic toothbrush. I took the advice of my dentist who is a tooth professional and now I have easier cleanings and better check-ups.
10. Successful people celebrate their success.
You may not be exactly where you want to be but success is a journey as well as a destination. As a friend said to me recently, you are already a millionaire. I am so busy looking to the future I sometimes forget to enjoy my success in the present. Remembering to pat yourself on the back once in a while can help you see just how far you have come.
As long as you are continually striving to be the best that you can be, streamlining your process by getting rid of what doesn’t work and keeping what does, you deserve to celebrate your success. I’m patting myself on the back right now because if I don’t who will?
We all have it in us to be extremely successful. So tap into what makes us the best we can be. We may be super successful in some areas and lacking in others. As time marches on we keep honing our skills and become better and better. It’s good to focus on the areas we have been successful as well as the areas where we need to keep striving to do better.
What are some of your recent successes? I know you have many, let’s celebrate them together.
